When Heaven Invades Earth

Today I've been reading Bill Johnson's book "The Supernatural Power Of A Transformed Mind."

The basic idea that underlies all of Bill Johnson's ministry is the phrase from the Lord's Prayer, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." He teaches that the role of christians is to bring all of the values of heaven into earth- healing, miracles, deliverance, salvation.

In this book he particularly hones in on our need to allow God to transform the way we think.

What I like about the way he writes is that it seems real and practical, unlike many similar authors who seem to live on a different planet to me. I think there is a lot of gnosticism mixed in with Biblical teaching, but there doesn't seem to be any of that with Bill Johnson.

So why don't we see so many miracles? Why do we struggle so much to see healings?

Here are some possibilities that occur to me:

  • Unbelief- we don't really believe God can do what He says
  • Fear- we are afraid that God might not show up, or even that He will turn up
  • Habits and tradition- the way we always do things
  • Inadequate relationship with God- we really don't push into the presence of God
  • Broken relationships
  • Unconfessed sin

Whew what a list!

Who then can expect to see God at work?

The good news is that it is God's work not ours. He delights to act in the lives of His people and will meet even a mustard seed of faith head on.

It's all about God's ability not ours.

The key, it seems to me, is to keep on pursuing God. We need to go deeper into the presence of God, pursuing prayer, worshipping whole-heartedly and meditating on the word.

As we give ourselves to God, He will give Himself to us and show us His glory.
