A few days ago I came across a quote from Joel Comsikey that cell leaders who spend 90 minutes per day or more in devotions multiply their groups twice as much as those who spend less than 30 minutes. It really struck a chord in my heart.
When we first started the church, I spent a good portion of each day praying, seeking God. But as time has gone on, other things have come in and prayer has been pushed aside somewhat. When I do set aside a block of time in the middle of the day, there is inevitably a distraction- someone will come, the phone will ring.
For quite a long time now, Margaret has been getting up at 6.30 each morning to pray for an hour or so. Suddenly I had this desire to rise early also to give the first part of the day to my relationship with Jesus. It wasn't driven by guilt or duty- I really wanted to do this. I'm not by nature a morning person so this is a Holy Spirit thing.
This is in addition to my daily bible readings and other prayer times.
My new morning routine will be:
6.30- 7.30 prayer
7.45- 9.00 bike ride
I hope this will cement itself into my life- especially through the cold winter mornings. There is power in prayer
