At its heart worship is acknowledging someone greater than ourselves. It is something that is hard-wired into our spirits- we are made to worship God.
All around the world, people feel the need to worship something- whether it is pagan gods, the created world, political leaders or sporting achievers.
Group worship sets us free from two of our gravest sins:
1. Our self-obsession in which we imagine that we are the most important things in creation.
2. Our tendency to privatise our deepest emotions and thoughts, preventing others from seeing who we are.
Christians express praise to God and place Jesus Christ at the highest place of adoration. We give thanks to a God who created and sustains us and who has redeemed us from our sins.
At New Life, our worship takes a contemporary flavour, using modern styles of music and expressions. Other churches take different approaches.
The important thing is that we focus our thoughts and our hearts on Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Amen! And thank you for this post.
