I saw the film "Absent" this afternoon. It was only that someone mentioned it in church this morning that I even knew it was screening.
It is a very moving documentary about the devastation being caused right across the Western world by fathers being absent from their families by reason of separation, overwork or just plain emotional distance.
Every man needs to see this film. It should be compulsory viewing.
I am seeing some parts of our society reaping an awful harvest of hurt, lack of self-identity, inability to love, low self-worth- and it's a replicating trend that goes down through the generations. If you grow up in a home with just a mother and three other kids of three different biological fathers, you are going to think that is normal.
I'm going to see if I can get a few copies of this for the bookshop.
Irony of the day- 2/3 of the people at this afternoon's showing were women. It would be nice to think that the men were spending quality time with their kids, but I don't think they all were. Come on guys- step up and take some responsibility here.
