A Cry For Justice- Jeff Crippen

Churches have a problem dealing with abuse in families. We are so committed to the sanctity of marriage that when we are confronted by a church member who is being physically, sexually or emotionally abused that we find it hard to take it in. This is not helped by the ability of abusers to appear charming loving, family members, even dedicated christians. All too often churches take the side of the abuser rather than the victim, resulting in the victim being forced to leave their church.

Jeff Crippen, who was a police officer prior to becoming a pastor, describes the psychology and methods of abusers. He pleads with churches to take seriously the claims of victims and to stand with them even at the risk of dividing their congregations. He takes issue with those who take a hard line position on divorce, showing that this is an ungodly doctrine.

This is an excellent book, a must read for all pastors and church leaders.
