Scripture
But when the leading priests and the elders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent.
Observation
Early in the morning, the leading priests and the elders make their plans for putting Jesus to death.
When Judas realises that the leaders intend to have Jesus killed, he takes the blood money back to them and says, “I have betrayed an innocent, man.”He flees from the temple and goes to hang himself. The leaders use the money to buy a field in which to bury Gentiles.
Pilots interrogates. Jesus asking him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” As the leaders bring the accusations against him, Jesus remains silent.
Application
In the face of false accusation. Jesus remained silent.
There are times when it is wise not to answer accusers, especially when they are bringing false accusations.
Jesus was at peace because he knew that:
- The accusations were false.
- The accusers were motivated by malice.
- He was being perfectly obedient to the father’s will.
- Countless millions of people would receive salvation because of this event.
When we are walking with the Lord, we have no need to justify ourselves. Jesus has already made us right with God.
Prayer
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your example of resolute, faithfulness to the Father. Please help me to walk with such confidence when the accusations fly. Amen.
