Holy Battery Powered Australia: Chris Bowen thinks we can store electricity “like water in a dam”

Someone needs to tell the Australian Energy Minister the bad news about batteries

Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen says we just need more renewables and more storage:

Bowen says we can store water, we should be able to store power

“You can say the wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine. Well, the rain doesn’t always fall either but we managed to store the water,” Bowen said.

Is this Chris Bowen’s Zuma-numbers moment with electricity?

He doesn’t seem to realize that electrons won’t politely sit in a shoe box waiting for the day they run your toaster. When South Australia got the worlds biggest battery in 2017 everyone got excited but few realized it would only power the state for two whole minutes before it ran out. South Australia is just 6% of the total National Energy Market, but if we were trying to make it truly 100% renewable with a reasonable battery backup Paul Miskelly and Tom Quirk calculated we’d need 7.5 million tonnes of lead acid batteries and a spare $60 to $90 billion dollars.

In a recent “record winning moment” in solar and battery powered excitement one of the smallest and sunniest towns in Australia made headlines when it managed to run off 100% solar and battery power for a whole 80 minutes. Onslow is a metropolis of 847 people. As I said at the time, we’re only 520,000 minutes short of a year.

Last year one new Tesla Megabattery in Victoria caught fire soon after it started operating. Since it took 76 hours to stop the fire we can honestly say it burned for three times longer than it provided electricity.

That’s how ready we are to power a nation of 26 million people on solar and wind and big batteries

Storage can be more than batteries, but we’re already spending $10 billion plus on Snowy Hydro 2.0 — the giant renewables-storage scheme that will waste 20-30% of the renewable energy fed into it so we can make a non-despatchable generator into a partly-despatchable one.

Hydrogen is hardly the answer. As David Archibald says it’s is such a reactive gas that there is no source of it in nature. The only naturally occurring hydrogen is the flammable part of farts. Otherwise, the cheapest way of making hydrogen is a water shift reaction with natural gas. But about 60% of the energy contained by the natural gas is wasted in the process — if you just wanted a source of energy, obviously, you’d use the natural gas.

As a fuel, hydrogen has some big shortcomings. It’s has low energy density, so a big, high-pressure tank of the stuff doesn’t take you far. It has an explosive range in air of 18% to 60%. It causes embrittlement of steel. There is a plot at the moment to add hydrogen to the natural gas distribution system — which then might start leaking like a sieve. It has a colourless flame, so leaks that have caught fire can’t be seen. In the days before infrared cameras, workers at a rocket fuel factory in Texas used to detect hydrogen leaks by walking with a straw broom in front of them. When the broom caught fire they had found the leak.

— DAvid Archibald

There’s more information on why Hydrogen is not the answer either here, thanks To Rafe Champion.

Like a third world nation we’re rationing electricity in winter:

Watch the fiery moment Energy Minister loses it at a journalist for suggesting more coal was the answer to the energy crisis

Last night hospitals were ordered to reduce electricity use and millions of people urged not to use basic appliances.

The potential for mass blackouts has increased with about 1800MW of coal-fired power not operating in Queensland and 1200MW of capacity offline in the states of NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

The Tomago aluminium smelter in NSW, the country’s biggest electricity user, was also forced to cut production to reduce the chance of a blackout.

The Energy Crisis

Australia is now reaping the fruit of the Green madness, and will continue to do so for at least the next decade, or longer if we pursue the Net Zero madness.

Last night, NSW was warned about a potential power shortage from 6 pm to 8 pm. Rolling blackouts were a possibility, we were told.

We dodged the proverbial bullet last night, but it could be on again tonight. If not tonight, then maybe next week. We are only two weeks into winter, and this is where we have got to. Then there is the next peak season, called summer.

The solution to this situation, we are told is more solar and wind power. Solar power will not make a scrap of difference in the evening peak in winter, because it is dark. Here in Narrabri for the last few days it has been very calm, so not much wind power either.

For the last 20 years, successive Governments have been telling us that we have to move away from “fossil fuels” for our power generation. The result is that generator companies have taken the hint and not invested in maintaining or upgrading their facilities. So, over the next few years, coal-powered electricity will virtually disappear from Australia. Ironic, when we have so much “clean” coal in this country that we are sending overseas.

At the same time, the same Governments have been telling us that gas is a good “transition” power source. It is true that gas generators are more responsive to demand and gas produces more energy per tonne of CO2 emitted. But, these Governments have also prevented the gas companies from extracting coal seam gas from most of the country.

So at the time when we most need natural gas as a backup for our electricity grid, there is a huge shortage because of Government policies. The world price of natural gas is high because of the Russia- Ukraine war, and we have lakes of it underground just waiting to be tapped.

Now we have this crazy situation where the electricity regulator has imposed a price cap on wholesale electricity of $300/MW hr (The price used to be about $30, that is how bad things have got). At this price natural gas power generators cannot make a profit, so they don’t want to operate. We have a couple of coal-fired generators under maintenance that was delayed, because there is no point in spending too much on them when they will close in a couple of years anyway.

This is where following the policies demanded by green activists gets you to. The next few years are going to be worse as we close down coal. When electric cars become a significant part of the vehicle fleet, the demand for electricity will be double what it is now.

It is actually worse than that, when you consider how people live. You get home from work, what do you do? Plug your car in, turn the heater or air conditioner on (full blast at first because you’ve been out all day), put the kettle on, then turn on the stove to cook dinner.

That time from 6 pm to 8 pm, when the sun has gone down and the wind is usually calm will for ever be a tight wire act for our power system.

Welcome to our brave new future of Net Zero.

Apostolic Summit 2022 – Session 6

Session 6 – John Alley

Commission for this Summit is to revisit the core topics of Sonship and Community.

Central heart message of apostles will be about love.

1 Corinthians 13. Normal healthy apostolic life.

Need a major input of Grace that changes our heart.  Apostles are meant to help this happen.

Supernatural outpouring of love. Power to understand the length, breadth, depth, height of God’s love. This is the fullness of God.

5-fold work with apostles to raise church to relational maturity. Find the supernatural anointing of Holy Spirit that gives us greater love.

Chuck Clayton. Thoroughly unique. Full of love and wisdom. Made mistakes but God didn’t want John to make same mistakes.

Great prophet. Never felt anything so just talked and hoped it was God, but always accurate and powerful.

Great pastor. Loved people, pastors.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-5.  Paul walked in faith, hope and love. Known by his lifestyle. “You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.”

Too much in minds of some pastors is the desire to be the “big man.” Heart of apostle is to be a servant. Apostle has to teach pastors how to serve.

1 Thessalonians 2:1-12   Don’t let courage fail you in strife. Don’t fail to tell the truth when others have different opinions. Like a mother, gentle, not the “big man.”

V. 8 Not here to sell a product. Apostle is there to share himself with them. Power is not in healing the sick, but power to change the heart. That is what apostles are here for. Progressive work over time.

V. 11. Only now does Paul mention fathers. It is a gentle, giving grace.

Anointing by which community is built. After John released this anointing the church was changed. Cell groups started working, relationships healed.

Need both the teaching and the anointing. Knowledge and power.

Signs and wonders do not make you an apostle. An apostle seeks an answer to people’s problems and signs and wonders follow. It is gentleness and love.

Apostolic Summit 2022- Session 5

Session 5 – David Alley

What is apostolic message?

Apostolic message is not getting apostles back. It is about preaching the original message that the apostles taught.

People think they know what the Gospel is, but they don’t. We use the term apostolic to distinguish from institutional Christianity.

Where is it going?

To maturity! Doctrinal and relational.

Not about doctrinal purity. Love and accept one another even if we haven’t got the theology perfect.

The message helps us to attain place where we are one heart and one mind.

We need genuine apostles! Millions call themselves apostles. About 99% aren’t really apostles.

How do we know who the genuine apostles are?

No check list in Scripture

Heart test.

Revelation  2:1-2.

Jude 3-4,11

  1. Do they do it for God or themselves? (Cain)
  2. Do they have regard for brethren? (Cain)
  3. Are they promoting themselves? (Korah)
  4. Are they using the Lord to get money?

What do we need to do about it?

  1. Trust the apostles God has put in your life
  2. Give up your requirements to be recognised
  3. Make Prayer for the apostolic message regular part of your life.

Apostolic Summit 2022 Session 3

Session 3 – John Alley

Every part of the Christian walk needs a revelation of the heart. Tithing, Communion, Baptism of Holy Spirit, Baptism. Sonship etc.

John’s experience. Baptism of Holy Spirit brought love and authority as well as tongues.

Conversion brings love, forgiveness. Still tied to world even though we are changed.

Healing. He knew that it was real, could preach about it. There was no power until he had a revelation of the heart. When he got the revelation, the power to heal came.

Not just revelation as information. Power or grace is received. Grace is power. They can’t be separated.

Anointing, power, Spirit, grace all talk about the same thing.

Don’t assume that you have all the love you can have. There is a ladder of love. Love that passes all understanding.

Moses could not enter the Promised Land. The Law cannot bring you to Christ, only Christ can do this.

As big as the Pentecostal movement has become, the apostolic movement is built on it and is already bigger.

Juan Carlos Ortiz. We call each other brother because we are not. We are all potatoes-he scrubs us to get the dirt off then he takes the skin off, then he puts us in a pot with a bunch of other potatoes, and turns the heat up. But he loves mashed potato- crushes us to make us one.

We need an extra work of grace that makes us one.

2002. Realised all of a sudden that he belonged to Chuck, Chuck belonged to him. The spirit of Sonship came in. From that moment, all the barriers were gone. “At home.”

Jesus’s Prayer, “Father make them one” was answered.

Need a father to give love, honour and service. Not about receiving teaching but giving heart.

Father Son Relationship is the new wineskin for the structure of the church. Note: this is the same new wineskin that has been here for 2000 years. It is the container that enables us to carry the Spirit. The old wineskin was Judaism. The new wineskin is the church. Father and Son is the life, the apostolic grace.

Start as servant, but become beloved friends.

There is no Sonship without the giving of the heart. There is no Christianity without the giving of the heart.

Apostolic Summit 2022- Session 2

Session 2 – Darrell Roos

John Alley

What was it that made it possible for Elisha to receive double portion of Elijah’s spirit?

It was his longing for his spiritual father.

Cf. Paul’s longing to be with Timothy

I am here for him. He is not here for me.

Holiness, higher cleanness of heart, comes from our attitude to those who are over us in the Lord.

Darrell Roos

Everything is for, about and in Jesus.

Built a Cell church, but it imploded because it lacked an apostle.

He didn’t even know what an apostle was.

1994 asked Chris Peterson to be his apostle. Didn’t know about fathering, but he got it. Following year was asked to be AOG regional director. Didn’t want to but it was God.

Leaders accountable to Jesus for maturity of disciples. We have to have the apostles and prophets in the church, as well as the pastors, teachers, evangelists.

An apostle is both a general and a father.

Apostolic is not just about the apostle but about the heart of the people.

He did not understand sonship, but then started to see it everywhere in the Bible. He needed a spiritual father, but couldn’t find one. Began to believe it was not for him. Life changed when he realised Chris Peterson was a father to him.

2 Corinthians 11:2. Godly jealousy to present the church to Christ as a pure bride.

Many who were called to apostolic ministry but have turned back to re-embrace the pastoral model.

Mark 2:1-7. Paralytic lowed through the roof. Man got healed because the faith of 4 men. Like the 4 out of 5 fold ministry gifts. Need God to breathe on the apostles and raise them up.

Apostolic Summit 2022 – Session 1

Session 1- John Alley

“Kingdom Culture” is a phrase that is often used but not defined. Claimed that apostles will bring “Kingdom Culture”.

Something is missing in much teaching about the apostolic. People want to be “as one” but not be one.

Kingdom Culture

Nation of priests

Priesthood – represents God to men, men to God, offers sacrifices.

Ex 19:6 you shall be to me a kingdom of priests.

Rev 1:6. He has made us a people and priests

1 Peter 2:9

The believers were one in heart and mind Acts 4:32.

We must love one another as God has commanded

The more excellent way is the way of love and is the heart of the apostolic message, and of Kingdom Culture

When you get apostolic grace you move into higher levels of love.

The purpose of the moves of Holy Spirit is to bring maturity of love.

Apostles are here to move church from institutional to relational basis. This is the central purpose of apostolic movement.

Restoration of apostles is about the restoration of the apostolic nature of the church. It’s not about what we do but about how we relate. Submission is central.

You cannot come to maturity in Christ without a revelation of love. Without love, spirit of sonship and community we cannot get close to fullness of Christ. The role of apostles is to help church find this perfect love.

Jo Nova: Time For the Liberals to Reset

Jo Nova writes:

Reinvention time: Liberals tried to win wealthy inner city Woke seats and lost the nation

If the Liberals stop trying to pander to the wealthy Woke electorates and focus on what most Australians want they can reinvent themselves to speak for mainstream Australia by the next election.

The dismal election result for the Liberals and Nationals in Australia may yet set them free. By shifting to the left on issues like Climate Change the Liberals were hobbled. They tried to be Labor -lite, but then couldn’t point out the sheer stupidity of trying to change the weather. Net Zero was a good goal they said, and so the voters voted for people who would do more of it sooner.  By adopting Labor-Green ideas and just trying to be better managers of bad programs they lost their mojo. There were no battles on principles in this election, just personalities.

The Right have been bullied into submission — afraid of being called climate deniers, racists, sexist or anti-vaxxer, they fought for nothing much. And so the voters voted for nothing much — splitting every which way. Astonishingly a new government will be formed that nearly 70% of Australians didn’t vote for. The Labor Party won with the lowest primary vote ever recorded in Australian history.

The great realignment of politics bit the Liberals

Waleed Aly, surprisingly, captured it better than anyone, pointing out that voters in wealthy electorates shifted left, while those in less wealthy seats moved right. The Liberals lost the traditional well heeled blue-ribbon seats to the renewables industry candidates in the Teal Party (the Sneaky Greens). But climate change is a fashion contest, and not only does it make no sense, but by definition, the sensible-option never wins on the cat-walk. Once one half of politics gave up fighting the intrinsic silliness of it, and stopped talking hard numbers, the only contest left was the fashionable one.

And popping the fashion bubble may yet even win those wealthy seats back. When everyone else is trying to outdo the Emperor, there’s nothing like pointing out the Emperor wears no clothes.

So much better than winning a pointless contest is to speak the truth and destroy the contest.

The loss of the Woke part of the party would be a blessing in disguise

Australian voters are fracturing into different party groups because the major parties are not serving their original bases. The Labor-Green Party was the party of the workers but has become the paired-party of the rich and fashionable, and the welfare dependent.  The Liberal-National parties were still trying to win the inner city blue-ribbon seats while also appealing to the suburbs, small business and rural areas. But that was an impossible deal. Something had to give.

If the Liberal Party can regroup against political correctness, they could storm back in just as Tony Abbott did. If they don’t, the minor parties on the Right will fill that space and do it for them.
