In the meantime, self-promoting ministry figures, accepting that the Church is meant to have apostles, and being capable leaders in their own sphere, jumped to the conclusion that they must obviously be the apostles. Since they pastored large churches, ran networks, or founded movements, it seemed natural that this success was an automatic qualifier to apostolic authority. John Alley

Just because someone in leadership is gifted and successful does NOT mean they are an apostle – not even if they have built a great work. An apostle is not a super-prophet, a super-teacher, a super-evangelist, or a super-pastor. It is another grace entirely. John Alley

This apostolic ground, once sacred, is being trampled upon, degraded and cheapened, by many who have not been appointed apostles at all. John Alley

The future of apostolic restoration is to see a seamless, anointed covering for the Body of Christ in the world. John Alley

What we have seen so far is more the restoration to the church of the notion of apostles, meaning that important truths that had long been set aside, as if useless for today, are being restored to their proper place. For too long it has been as if the Lord no longer acted in accordance with all that the Scriptures have said. Yet even in the restoration of these biblical doctrines the process is nowhere complete. This restoration will continue until the Church grows to be the mature sons of God (Romans 8:19-22). This will eventuate in the second bodily advent of the Lord, which will culminate in all things in both heaven and earth being united in Christ (Ephesians 1:9-11). Joseph Mattera

With all of the movements towards the restoration of the Apostolic among historic Pentecostal denominations and Independent Evangelical networks, I see this trend continuing to garner influence until the (global) gospel confessing Body of Christ (whether denominational or nondenominational) morphs into the New Testament pattern of the way of Christ and His apostles. This will take place in various forms and levels of maturity depending upon the leadership and denominational expression of the organisation. Joseph Mattera
