Wet wet wet

How wet was it in Narrabri? Here in the West, we had exactly 100 mm for the 24 hours to 5 pm, a total of 125 for the last couple of days. Our average for the whole of March is 56 mm, so a bit damp.

There are lots of roads closed due to flash flooding and some houses have been inundated.

After clearing for a while this afternoon, the clouds are coming back over so we might yet get some more.

Lake Fills In A Couple of Days

After months of complete desiccation, the Narrabri Lake is just centimetres from overflowing. When I last looked a couple of days ago, there was just a shallow layer covering about half the total area. Since then, hundreds of megalitres have flowed in to fill the lake. And the birds have come flocking in.

A Land of Droughts and Flooding Rains

Narrabri, like much of eastern Australia, has been in the grip of drought for several years. The creek at the back of our house has been pretty much dry for months.

Yesterday, we received 45 mm of rain which is 3/4 of our average rainfall for the whole of February. Heavy rain on the Nandewar Ranges, east of Narrabri resulted in minor flooding in the eastern side of the town.

This morning our creek is full of water, and there is a cacophony of frogs that is almost deafening.

Contending Again

It’s now 12 months since I woke up in the middle of the night with the Lord saying to me “You must contend for the rain.”

You can read my previous posts about this journey here, here, here, here, here, and here.

I have discovered in my praying and thinking about this issue that the rain referred to is both natural rain and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that is so powerful and pervasive that people receive salvation and miracles easily.

Another dry winter and spring has brought me again to the place of praying more passionately for the rain.

Finally, last night the rain came. We had 19mm overnight, and after thinking it had cleared away, it is raining again this morning. I was interested to see that at the various weather stations in and around Narrabri the registration was around 4 mm, except for Jacks Creek where they received over 40 mm . Just 1 km from here made all the difference.

I’m not claiming any responsibility for the Mooloobar St monsoon, just noticing a strong link.

I’m still praying, still contending. “Send more, Lord.”
