Photo Exhibition

I've just got home from tonight's photo exhibition at the Bowling Club. It was a fund-raiser organised by Margaret Baxter for the High School Community Centre. It was a pleasant night out and probably raised about $1000.

I was blown away by the amount of talent that our local photographers have, but even more blown away by the beauty of God's creation glimpsed in so many different ways.

Praise be to God!

  1. I'm always humbled by the great photos I see here on Opera. When I see some of the macro shots, I think about the tiny, microscopic hearts and lungs and livers etc. that God put into some of these small bugs. Just amazing!!!

  2. I agree Lois, although I don't think insects have the same organs we do… they "breathe" through their skin and their "blood" isn't pumped by a heart… but I'm no entomologist!

  3. I'm sure you're right, but however they breath etc. still they are an amazing example of God's work! To think He works so small and so large too!

  4. Our God is an AWESOME God! In light of all that, I can't understand why people question His existance, or refuse to try to do the things He's told us to do.

  5. Yes, and it goes far deeper and higher than living things also. Our position in the Milky Way protects us from very violent radiation, The stability of earth's orbit (if it varied even by 1% on it's current position life could not exist), The magnetic field around the earth, the Moon attracts asteroidsSome of the basic physical constants that describe the universe- if they varied by the tiniest degrees NOTHING would exist. It is amazing how finely tuned our existence is- and God planned it all.

  6. It says in Psalms somewhere, "The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." "It's not talking about IQ but the total determination, in spite of all evidence, to live as if there is no God.It's also called "foolish pride".. something which we're all guilty of from time to time 😦

  7. Yes, I woke up thinking about my comment last night and it is wrong to say what I did. I guess everyone has something that is difficult to accept. I believe in God, and I believe God. My personal difficulty is why sometimes prayers come back answered with a no.I need to have a little more understanding for people. It's good to think about these things – it brings us a little closer to what God wants us to be.

  8. "My personal difficulty is why sometimes prayers come back answered with a no."There are many reasons for this. I think in the end it's all about understanding that we are NOT God.I'm not saying that God deliberately withholds good things from us or makes bad things happen just to put us in our place. But just think what it would be like if all of our prayers were answered "Yes" every time. What would the world look like then? It's a scary thought when I think of some of the prayers I've prayed! When I think also of the good things that have happened from the most awful situations…. I wouldn't have wanted the bad things to happen, but tremendous good came out of them.I'm thankful that I don't get to decide which of my prayers get answered!

  9. I guess my first thought is that I only pray for things that I think are good for me or for others. But then, for example, I prayed a long time that my ex-husband was not cheating on me, turned out he was, but it caused a divorce which opened up a wonderful relationship with Arthur that would not have happened otherwise. Yes, God knows best. You're right, it's best if God is the one who decides what answer to give! 🙂
