Reflection on Psalm 89:1-4, 19-24

Scripture
“I will sing of your love forever”

Observation
This is a very bold claim- to be able to say that you will love God and sing His raises forever.

This is passionate faith! This is not quiet, meditative, intellectual faith in a dusty library. This is passionate, in your face, proud faith that will not be stopped, even by death.

The man who wrote this psalm was Ethan the Ezrahite. He looks to David as his inspiration- David the passionate, valiant king of Israel who did everything BIG, both his acts of righteousness and his acts of wickedness. The thing about David, though, was that he loved God passionately.

Application
To love God passionately is so important. It's not enough to turn up and have the body and brain in agreement with God's word. God looks at our heart.

Paul tells us to “fan into flame the gift that was placed in you with the laying on of hands.” In the same way, I need to fan into flame that passion for God.

How can I do this?

1. Remember what He has done in the past.

2. Meditate on the word- not just for theological enlightenment, but also to treasure the love of God revealed there.

3. Sing songs of praise and worship

4. Share testimonies of grace with other people,

Prayer
Thank you Father for your awesome power. Thank you for saving me from my own sin. Thank you for washing me in your love. As me heart has been thrilled today in meditating on your love, may I always be on fire with love for you. Amen.
