The “Gospel” Of Works

I saw this sign at a church today and was horrified. I'm sure it's not the official doctrine of the church but it is an error that many in our culture fall prey to.

Our culture tells us in many ways that what we do defines who we are. Our job is a part of our identity. Success is defined by achievements.

Even in churches, there can be a tendency to value the people who do more than others.

And we can so easily turn principles of things that can help you grow as a christian into things that you "must" do in order to be acceptable to God.

God does not value you by what you do.

God loves you because He made you.

God loves you so much that He became flesh and blood and laid down His life for you.

There is nothing that you can do to change that.

There is nothing you can do to make Him love you more.
