Reflection on John 4:5-42

Scripture
“We no longer believe just because of what you said, now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.”

Observation
Jesus crosses many social boundaries to reach this woman who, in a strange kind of way, proves to be a person of great social influence in the community which had rejected her.

She was an adulteress, a woman, a Samaritan. There were many reasons why Jesus would not talk to her. Yet he reached out and brought her to a recognition of who he is.

Her testimony brought many to faith and they came to see for themselves who Jesus was.

Application
This most unlikely of people brought about a revival with a very weak testimony- “This man told me everything I did.”

Our testimonies have power even when they seem so ordinary and powerless. As someone once observed: “A man with a testimony is never at the mercy of a man with a theory.”

Our words can change lives and whole communities.

Prayer
Father please help me to testify about what you have done in my life to the people around me. Amen.
