“You can ask for anything in my name and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.”

Observation
Jesus tells the disciples that He is going away but to trust Him. He will prepare a place for us.

Thomas and Philip find his words troubling. Jesus explains that He is the way, the truth and the life, the only way to the Father.

Jesus is so united with the Father that to see Jesus is to see the Father. Those who follow Jesus will do His works and much more. He promises that anything we ask in His name He will do for us in order to glorify the Father.

Application
the words of Jesus, “I will prepare a place for you and return for you” are a direct quotation from the betrothal ceremony. After the parties agreed to the marriage, the groom-to-be would go and prepare a house for his bride. When the house was ready the marriage would be finalised.

Jesus is inviting us to share in a unity with Him that is as deep as that between Himself and the Father- one heart, one mind, one flesh.

When we walk in that unity with our Lord, then we can ask anything and He will do it for us, because our hearts are centred on His glory.

Our highest calling as christians is to lose ourselves in Him, delight ourselves in Him and become focussed on Him.

Lord Jesus, help me to let go of my own will and surrender all that I am to you . Amen.
