Scripture
“God overlooked people's ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now He commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him.”
Observation
Paul is in Athens preaching to the high council of the city. Athens at that time was well known as a centre for philosophy.
Paul seizes on the altar inscribed “To an Unknown God” and says this unknown god is in fact the creator of all things. We can't serve Him or bring offerings to Him as He needs nothing from human hands.
In the past, God overlooked the ignorance of people in worshipping idols but now He calls all people to repent.
Paul's message brings a mixed response- some mock but others become followers of Jesus.
Application
What was true then is still true today. God is still calling people to turn away from thins and every form of worship that is false worship. Judgement Day is closer than it was yesterday.
We must ensure our lives are in order and that we are walking close to the Lord every day.
Prayer
Hold me close to you Lord . Save me from my sins. Amen.
