“If you love me you will obey my commandments.”

Observation
If I love Jesus I will obey His commandments. Out of this love, Jesus sends the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to help us. The world cannot receive Him because it doesn't even recognise its need for the Spirit.

Jesus promises not to leave us as orphans. The Holy Spirit is a sign of the Father-nature of God. Obedience to Jesus is the sign of our love for Him.

Application
When we are in love, meeting the needs or requirements of the one we love is not a burden to us. If we love Jesus we will obey Him- not from fear of punishment but form love and a desire to please Him.

When we fail, He does not respond in a vengeful way but in love. He remains patient with us, always encouraging us to start over.

Prayer
Lord, deepen my love for you so that I can more gladly obey you. Amen.
