Reflection on 1 Peter 4:12-14, 5:6-11

Scripture
Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through as if something strange were happening to you.

Observation
We should not be surprised when we pass through hard times. We should rejoice when these things happen, especially if they come as payback for our faith in Christ.

If we humble ourselves before God, he will lift us up. We must stand firm and resist the Devil who tries to undermine our walk with Jesus.

Application
We would like to think that belief in Jesus should insulate us from all problems in life. The truth is very different.

When you signed up for salvation you signed up for war. Satan will do all he can to render Christ's followers ineffective. Persecution. Sickness. Discouragement. Hatred.

We must stand firm and not allow the devil to trick us into giving up.

Prayer
Some days Lord it is hard to keep following n your ways. Help me to stand firm and to look to you for strength and purpose. Amen.

  1. As long as we keep our focus on God and His calling for us. It's no good going all sooky and backing away from what He has called us to do. Too many people fall short because the enemy undermines then and they give up.
