Reflection on John 17:1-11

Scripture
After saying these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.”

Observation
Jesus prays to the Father. Even this moment, right before His suffering, Jesus is concerned with the glory of the Father and the future of the disciples.

He commits Himself to God's glory and He prays for the protection of the disciples.

Application
This prayer is the heart of Jesus' mission. His desire is to reveal God's glory and to bring many people into true fellowship with the Father.

When praying, we need to extend or concern beyond the immediate issues that affect us. It isn't wrong to pray for ourselves, but we must go beyond that, seeking God's blessing on others and for God to be glorified in the world.

Prayer
Lord make my heart like Jesus'. Set me free from self-centredness so that I can serve others and bring honour to your name. Amen.
