Wayne Swan Sinking Ships

Our Treasurer Wayne Swan was on the ABC Radio programme "The World Today" this afternoon happily sinking his own government while seemingly supporting the "carbon tax"

Firstly he blamed Opposition Leader Tony Abbott for "talking down the economy" over the "carbon tax." This was in the context of a dramatic dive in consumer confidence in the last month. So what he was saying to the nation and to his colleagues was "People believe the Opposition Leader more than they believe the Prime Minister." If Julia had an inch of credibility left in the party she would dump him for this alone.

In the same interview and others he repeatedly called the introduction of the "carbon tax " a "courageous decision." He very carefully gave all the credit to the Prime Minister for pursuing the policy, which basically means he wants nothing to do with it. And all the time lauding her as a courageous leader making courageous decisions.

Everyone knows what a courageous decision is in politics.

If you don't know, here is a quote from that documentary on government processes "Yes Minister." I couldn't find the clip on You Tube, so here is the clip from Wiki Quotes

Sir Humphrey: If you want to be really sure that the Minister doesn't accept it, you must say the decision is "courageous".
Bernard: And that's worse than "controversial"?
Sir Humphrey: Oh, yes! "Controversial" only means "this will lose you votes". "Courageous" means "this will lose you the election"!

There you have it. The second most senior member of the Government quietly burying the knife in the Prime Minister.

Will she see the year out? Will this disastrous policy ever get through Parliament?

  1. With the current disastrous poll results and nobody listening to Julia I think everybody in the ALP is in a quiet panic.
