Reflection on Matthew 13:24-43

Scripture
“Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of the Father.”

Observation
More parables of the Kingdom. The Kingdom is like a field in which an enemy sows weeds among the wheat. The owner commands that the weeds be allowed to grow until the harvest and then the separation may take place.

Jesus tells two other parables about mustard seeds and yeast. These speak of the Kingdom working and growing inexorably in the world.

The disciples ask Jesus to explain the parable of the weeds. Jesus explains that it is about the righteous and the unsaved people living side by side until the end of the age.

Application
Jesus uses parables to encourage us to listen closely to work out the meaning of what He is saying.

We need to not just listen to the glib, easily digested sound grabs of preachers and popular authors. The Bible is given to us to feed our souls. That means that wew nee dto meditate on it and learn to hear God speaking to us,

When we do that we become a part of a mustard seed movement which looks small and insignificant but which grows into something strong and powerful.

Prayer
Father, enlighten my mind so that I can move into a deeper understanding of your ways. Amen.
