Reflection on Matthew 13:31-33,44-52

Scripture
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of your seeds, yet when it grows, it becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”

Observation
More parables of the kingdom are given yo prompt is to think. These parables teach us that God's kingdom:

* starts small but will grow relentlessly
* small and insignificant as it seems, it will infiltrate right through the world
* is so precious that we should sell everything to get it
* a huge net that catches all kinds of people but there will in the end be a sorting

Application
These pictures of the Kingdom challenge our current experience of church- we want salvation with no cost, a church that is influential and powerful rather than subversive and hidden, we prefer to judge rather than leaving judgement to God.

Perhaps we al need to allow the yeast of these little parables to infiltrate our thinking… and our doing.

Prayer
Lord, let my thinking and living be more about kingdom values than worldly values. Amen.
