Reflection on Exodus 14:19-31

Scripture
When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians they were filled with awe before him. They put their faith in him and in his servant Moses.

Observation
The angel of the Lord and the pillar of cloud move to stand between the Israelites and the pursuing Egyptians. Moses raises his hand over the water and the Lord opens up a path through the sea.

The Israelites escape through the sea. The Egyptians pursue them but the Lord throws them into confusion and twists their chariot wheels.

When the Israelites are safely through, the Lord tells Moses to raise his hands again. The sea collapses and drowns the Egyptian army.

The people rejoice at God's great power.

Application
God's power is immense, yet He relies on the obedience and faithfulness of Moses. It is at Moses' action that God's power is unleashed, first top pull the waters back and then to return them.

It must have taken great faith for Moses to trust God to rescue them. It also took great faith on the part of God that Moses would act in obedience.

God still chooses to use people to be channels of his grace and his power. He trusts us to take the steps of faith that bring about His purposes.

Prayer
Father what are you entrusting to me at this time? Please grant me the faith to raise my hands when you instruct me. Amen.
