Scripture
“Anyone who stumbles over that stone will be broken and it will crush anyone it falls on”
Observation
Jesus tells a story in which a landowner develops a vineyard and leases it to tenants. At harvest time he sends out servants to collect his share but the farmers beat them and kill them.
Finally he sends his son thinking that they would respect him. But these wicked tenants think that by killing him they will keep the vineyard.
The owner then raises an army to remove the tenants and installs farmers who will respect him.
The Pharisees and priests recognise that they are the wicked farmers in the story. They want to arrest Jesus but are afraid of the crowds.
Application
Any people who claim to speak for God must be careful to ensure that they are tending the vineyard for Him and not just for their own gain.
As a pastor do I honour the Lord in all my teaching and leading of others? Am I in it for what I get out of it?
This is an issue for all christian also and not just leaders. Are we tending the domain God has entrusted to us for Him or for ourselves?
Prayer
Father help me to serve you and to honour you in all things and at all times. Amen.
