Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.
Observation
Paul follows a command for two women to agree with each other with the command to rejoice.
This is an intensely practical passage with the following instructions:
– get on with each other
– rejoice in the Lord
– don't be anxious about anything- instead pray
– think godly thoughts, meditating on things which are good and true
– put all of Paul's teaching into practice
Application
Some of these commands seem difficult to achieve- how can I rejoice or turn off my anxiety?
Paul seems to be saying that in all situations we need to direct our thinking towards the Lord and what He has done or is doing.
We are surrounded by reasons to be sad, angry or fearful. There are plenty of satanic influences in our world which will corrupt our hearts if we let them.
So the answer is to surround our hearts and minds with the things of the Lord.

Father help me to rejoice in you regardless of my environment. Help me to focus my thoughts on you always. Amen.
