For you know quite well that the Day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.

Observation
Paul reminds us that the end times will come when we least expect them. At the very time when people are saying “All is well” then disaster will come.

We need to prepare, living as people of light not darkness. Christ died to save us from judgement and so we must live for Him.

Application
It is very easy to get caught up in the affairs of the world. Our daily concerns of life are all around us, in our face, all day long. Paul, like Jesus, calls us to have a higher vision. While still meeting our responsibilities in this life we are to also focus our attention on the things of the spirit,

Salvation means that we are assured of God's favour regardless of whether we are alive when Jesus comes back. What is important is that we are prepared for the Day when we meet Him.

It is wrong to put off doing the things that God has called us to do. We must live as faithful and obedient sons now.

Father help me to live in this world with the vision of the next world always before me. Amen.
