Scripture
To the only wise God be glory for ever through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Observation
So much is packed into so few words in this final doxology.
1. God is able to establish us, to make us firm and strong in His kingdom
2. The gospel, the Good News proclaimed by Jesus and about Him is what saves us.
3. This was a hidden mystery for long ages. It was a part of God's plan but not clearly seen in the past.
4. God has commanded that the prophetic writings which contained the story of salvation are now open to the minds and spirits of people.
5. Salvation is open to all nations who believe and obey Him.
Application
It is so easy to take the gospel for granted. Salvation becomes the new normal for us. But this is not a thing to be taken lightly or to grow accustomed to.
The gospel is the power of salvation. God has intervened powerfully in the world.
The light has come into the darkness- first the world and then much later into my spirit- and it has conquered the darkness.
The prophets longed to see this kingdom of which they only caught glimpses. But here we are, on the right side of the revelation, and it seems so ordinary to us.
Prayer
Lord forgive me for becoming bored with salvation, so accustomed to having free access to your throne that it seems like a right that I have earned for myself. Awaken in me the wonder of the gospel. Amen.
