Narrabri Flooding

We've had enormous amounts of rain in the area over the last few days. Just yesterday we had 51 mm of rain in 24 hours, close to our average for the whole month. This is on top of a week or so of rain. The rain has been very widespread in the area, including the Nandewar Ranges.

All the water courses are overflowing. Unlike our usual floods which are caused by excessive rain in distant places coming down the river days later, this one has been caused by local rain so it is very different to our normal experience.

This is the view this morning from the back door of the church. The creek rose overnight partly due to local rain and also due to overflowing from the Namoi River

The Narrabri Creek runs through the heart of the town. It has risen a lot and has come right up to the Crossing Theatre

This is near the northern side of town, where a road has been inundated

  1. No prayers for rain here for a couple of years!Yesterday's rain was 131 mm in 24 hours to 5 pm. So far in 2012 we have had over 360mm which in averages would take us to mid-July to get to.Fortunately the flooding here has not been severe, the rain has eased off and the creeks and rivers are starting to fall. Moree was a lot worse off than us- they are expecting one of the biggest floods on record.
