Reflection on Mark 9:2-9

Scripture
As the men watched, Jesus' appearance was transformed and his clothes became dazzling white.

Observation
Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a mountain. While they are there Jesus' appearance is changed- his clothes glow far brighter than any earthly bleach could make them.

A voice comes from heaven and announces, β€œThis is my dearly beloved Son. Listen to Him.”

Application
Sometimes, in the midst of ordinary time, a veil is lifted, our eyes are opened and we get a glimpse of reality.

Jesus, the Son of God, has been in disguise, so to speak. Suddenly these three men are granted a peek into the true nature of Jesus. They see him conversing with Moses and Elijah who are dead but alive.

Too often our lives are hemmed in by the concerns of ordinary living. Yet from time to time we catch a glimpse of the awe, the mystery of spiritual reality.

I don't think it's a good idea to chase spiritual experiences, but it is always good to chase God, to pursue a deeper relationship with Him. When we do that, He grants us wonderful insight and revelations.

Prayer
O Lord, may I see you as you truly are and know you more. Amen.

  1. Well worded – esp about getting a glimpse of reality sometimes in the midst of ordinary time. So true. Reminds me of a dream about a pastor climbing a mountain πŸ™‚

  2. I know several people from my youth group days who completely lost their relationship with Jesus through chasing the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Those who really worked on their relationship with Jesus received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and more
