Reflection on Genesis 9:8-17

Scripture
“When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on the earth.”

Observation
God affirms the covenant he has made with Noah and his family and with every living creature on the earth. This covenant is that God will never again destroy everything by flood.

God establishes the rainbow as a kind of memorial- not that God needs reminding of His promises so much as we do.

Application
God is always faithful to His creation. His love for us never ceases.

God destroyed most of the world with the flood, but He brought His faithful followers through the tumult.

Even when it feels like I am sinking under the weight of circumstances or the burden of sin, I can trust God to bring me through.

The rainbow is a reminder that, for followers of Jesus, this present trial will come to an end. Jesus has promised He will never leave us.

Prayer
Thank you Father for this great assurance that, whatever the trial, you go with me. Help me Lord to look to you and your salvation. Amen.
