Reflection on Acts 4:1-12

Scripture
“There is salvation in no one else. God has given no other name by which we must be saved.”

Observation
Peter and John are preaching to the crows at the Temple Gate where they had healed the lame man. The Jewish leaders come to confront them. Peter and John are arrested and detained overnight. Despite this set back many people become believers.

The next day Peter and John are brought before the Sanhedrin. They are asked in whose name they healed the lame man and Peter speaks boldly, concluding with these words: “There is salvation in no one else. God has given no other name by which we must be saved.”

Application
A powerful miracle leads to many being saved and also to opposition from the authorities.

The gospel is preached clearly and unequivocally. We get a bit theological and want to cover all the bases. Peter's message was blunt- there is only one way to salvation.

We need the power of the Holy Spirit to heal the sick, preach the gospel and stand firm in the face of opposition.

Prayer
Holy Spirit come and fill me. Show me how to heal the sick and to tell others about your great salvation. Amen.

  1. Hmmm. Just been reading the "Miracle Evangelism" subject text. Maybe we don't see the signs and wonders following because we aren't preaching to the crowds.
