Reflection on Acts 8:26-40

Scripture
Beginning with the same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus

Observation
The Holy Spirit instructs Philip to go south along the desert road. Here he encounters an official of the Queen of Ethiopia's court. He is reading from Isaiah 53 about the rejection of the Servant.

Philip explains to him that this is a prophecy about Jesus and goes on to share the Good News. The Ethiopian then asks to be baptised.

Philip is snatched away by the Lord and finds himself in Azotus.

Application
Here is a man who is thirsty for God. He is excluded from being a Jewish convert but he loves the Lord and is reading the Scriptures to find out more.

Philip is sent out of town and into the desert by the Lord. It must have seemed pointless to him, but he obeyed the Lord. Consequently a man who is ready to respond to the gospel is saved, baptised and filled with Holy Spirit.

This is a classic case of God using someone who is humble and obedient. We need to be always ready to drop what we are doing to be about the Lord's business.

Prayer
Father it is easy to get trapped in a routine and miss what you are wanting to do. Please help me to be attentive to your Holy Spirit all the time. Amen.
