He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son does not have life.

Observation
We believe in the testimonies of people but God has given us a testimony. Because he is God, his testimony is greater.

Anyone who knows Jesus knows that what God says is true. But those who refuse to believe in Christ make God to be a liar because they refuse to believe what God says about his Son.

Anyone who has Christ in their heart has life and anyone who doesn't have Christ does not have life.

Application
We often take the statements of people at face value- even people we have never met. For example, despite our professed cynicism, most people believe the news media.

John says that Christ is God's own testimony to the world. If we refuse the salvation of Christ we are saying that God is a liar. There is only one way to walk to eternal life and that is by receiving God's promise of salvation through the death of Jesus.

Lord your word is true because you are the truth. Help me to trust you when my faith is weak. Amen.
