Reflection on Acts 2:1-21

Scripture
“In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants- men and women alike- and they will prophesy.”

Observation
On the day of Pentecost all the believers are meeting together. With a noise like a wind storm and the appearance of flames on each head, the Holy Spirit comes upon the believers. They begin to speak in other languages as the Holy Spirit enables them.

People from around come to see what the noise is about. Each hears in their own language the disciples praising God.

Responding to some scoffers who declare them to be drunk, Peter addresses the crowd and says that this is the outpouring predicted by Joel long before- al flesh will receive the Holy Spirit and every person can be saved.

Application
The Holy Spirit is freely given to all believers for the purpose of making us like Jesus in holiness and in power.

The initial sign of the fullness of the Holy Spirit shown here is the gift of speaking n tongues or languages which we do not know by natural means. Others are also mentioned by Peter such as prophecy, dreams and visions.

The point of Pentecost is this- God's Spirit is available to every follower of Jesus. Our relationship with God is meant to be vibrant, alive and to overflow from our lives with such power that we affect the world around us.

Prayer
Today Lord may I be a vessel for your Spirit. Anoint my thinking, my speaking and my doing so that everything I do glorifies Jesus. Amen.
