Scripture
Now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Observation
Gentiles were once separated from Israel and the benefits of the covenants God made. Now we who were once far off have been brought near.

Christ is our peace. His death on the cross has destroyed the law which divided Jew from Gentile. God's purpose was to make one new humanity and save all through Christ's death on the cross.

So now we are a part of the household of faith, built on the apostles and prophets with Christ as the cornerstone.

Application
Although this passage is about the unity of Jews and Gentiles in the kingdom of God- a unity achieved by breaking down the Law- it also speaks of unity amongst christians.

There is one Body, one church, one household of faith built on the apostles and the prophets with Christ as the cornerstone.

The trouble is that we have built a very different structure dominated by pastors, teachers and appointed officials. The result is fragmentation and division in the Body.

We need to understand God's plan for a unified humanity, reaching out to our brothers and sisters in other branches of the church, honouring and loving those with whom we share allegiance to the one King.

Father help me to understand the true unity of the Body of Christ. Amen.
