Reflection on John 6:24-35

Scripture
Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”

Observation
Jesus and the disciples have returned to Capernaum, and the crowds follow them. When they catch up with Jesus, he exhorts them to look for eternal food and not just the physical bread he provided.

Jesus says that the work God requires of them is to trust in the one he has sent. He, Jesus, is the true bread of heaven. He is the bread of life- those who come to him will not be hungry or thirsty any more.

Application
We live in an age where there are so many choices for our spiritual and physical sustenance. Jesus is the true bread of life who meets every need that we have.

Salvation means that we recognise He is the only source of life and that we must stop looking to other experiences.

Just as bread satisfies for a day, so we need to keep coming back to Jesus daily to be refilled, renewed and re-energised.

Prayer
Bread of Heaven, teach me to trust you alone for all I need. Amen.
