“I am the bread of life.”

Observation
The Jewish leaders take offence at Jesus saying he is the bread who comes from heaven. After all, he grew up in Nazareth.

Jesus tells them to stop grumbling. No one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws them. Those who believe in Jesus have everlasting life. Jesus is the bread of life and anyone who feeds on him has eternal life.

Application
Jesus is the bread of life- the source of spiritual life.

Jesus is the one who makes it possible for us to enter eternal life with God. As He says in other places, he is the way, the truth and the life- no one comes to the Father except through Him.

Just as bread satisfies our hunger, Jesus is the one who satisfies spiritual hunger. People look for spiritual fulfilment in all kinds of ways, but only Jesus satisfies the yearning for communion with God.

Prayer
Jesus you are the bread of life. Let me seek fulfilment in you alone. Amen.
