Scripture
“I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there be.”
Observation
The newly established King Solomon shows his devotion to the Lord by following David's statutes and worshipping the Lord.
The Temple has not yet been built, so people worship at the high places. It is at one of these high places, Gibeon, where God appears to Solomon in a dream.
The Lord tells Solomon to ask for whatever he wants and it will be given. Rather than asking for gold or for the death of his enemies, Solomon asks for wisdom to rule over God's people. God grants Solomon's request as well as the wealth he did not ask for.
Application
Solomon is not perfect, but at this key point in his life, he recognises the one thing he needs is wisdom. He knows that the only source for wisdom is the Lord.
Wisdom is the ability to select the best option when confronted with choices. It is the ability to apply God's principles to the endless shades of grey in our daily life.
Wisdom was not limited to Solomon. In fact Solomon wrote that if we pursue wisdom we will find her. God has also given us the word of wisdom as a gift of the Holy Spirit,
Wisdom is one of God's many graces to those who seek Him diligently.
Prayer
Father please give me all the wisdom I need day by day. Amen.
