Reflection on 1 Kings 8:1-11

Scripture
The priests could not continue their services because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple.

Observation
With the Temple complete, Solomon sets about moving the Ark of the Covenant to the new building.

The leaders of the nation gather during the Feast of Shelters. The priests bring the Ark to the Temple, where so many sacrifices are offered that no one can keep count.

The priests then carry the Ark into the Most Holy Place. When they emerge the whole Temple is filled with the cloud of God's presence. It is so powerful that the priests have to stop ministering.

Application
When God is moving you can feel His presence. Some people are so enamoured of this experience that they chase the experience, trying to replicate it through human or religious methods.

In Solomon's day, the people were just wanting to obey the commandment God had given them. The cloud of glory was a bonus, an unexpected surprise.

The key to this is that we must pursue God not an experience, to cherish the Person not an event.

Jesus told us to abide or remain in Him and then we would produce great fruit. We must deepen our relationship with Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit- and then we will see the glory.

Prayer
Father God reveal yourself to me. Help me to remain in you constantly. Amen.
