He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first-fruits of all he created.

Observation
Every good gift comes from the Father who does not change. He is the one who gives us the new life in Christ.

We need to let that new life show in the way we live. We must get rid of every impure deed. We must be doers of the word and not just hearers. If we study the word in order to obey it, we will be blessed.

True faith comes out in actions such as caring for orphans and widows and living free of the world's pollution.

Application
Christianity is not a theory or an ideology. True faith results in a change of lifestyle.

James exhorts us to separate ourselves from the sin of the world and to live pure lives. We must keep a tight rein on our tongues and care for the vulnerable and neglected people in our midst.

Knowledge of scripture is good but our study is useless if we fail to put it into practice.

Prayer
Father, teach me how to be a doer of your word. Convict me of my sin and encourage me to live like Christ. Amen.
