Scripture
He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be made whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
Observation
This, one of the Servant Songs found in Isaiah, foretells the suffering and death of Jesus.
Jesus carried our weaknesses as his own. He seemed to be being punished by God, yet it was our sin that He was punished for. My sin, my rebellion was what crushed Jesus.
We are all sheep who have gone our own way. We have left God's ways to go our own way.
Jesus did not defend Himself although unjustly condemned. He did no wrong but was treated like a criminal. Because He was faithful to God, He will be honoured by God.
Application
My forgiveness comes at the huge cost of Jesus' death.
The perfect one who never sinned became sin for my sake.
This is the way of grace. God moves away from what is legally right, and instead pours out Himself for us.
Amazing grace. Amazing God.
Prayer
Lord, may I never lose the wonder of the cross, the awesome love you showed to me in sending your Son to die for me. Amen
