This afternoon, I noticed that the bike tyres were a little soft so before jumping on the old treadly I grabbed the bike pump and proceeded to get them as hard as I could. Put the bike pump inside, put on the helmet and jumped on the bike. At the end of the drive I noticed that the back tyre was flat.
Gave the bike pump another go, but the back tyre stayed flat.
The last time I told this story in church, Dave Baxter rocked up and donated a compressor. So I took the bike around to the back verandah, worked out which end of the compressor to plug the hose in and proceeded to pump up the tyre.
Got it up to "Rock hard" by the finger test and then decided to see what the pressure gauge said. 20 psi. The tyres say minimum of 40 psi. So I went for "ludicrous hard". Tyres look a different shape than at "normal rock hard".
I jumped on the bike and hit the road. Unsurprisingly, with the higher pressure and the tyres barely touching the road, it was much easier to pedal. I won't say it was effortless, but certainly easier. I was riding generally 2 gears higher than yesterday. I rode further, and almost 4 km/hr faster on average than yesterday.
You can make any applicaiton you like from that little anecdote. Life generally goes easier when we follow the manufacturer's instructions rather than doing the thing we always did. Read the Bible and do what it says and life will work out better and faster and you will travel further along the road,
