Reflection on Isaiah 6:1-13

Scripture
then I heard the Lord say, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

Observation

Isaiah sees a vision of the Lord. The Lord is on a throne and the train of His robe fills the Temple. Around Him are seraphim whose voices shake the Temple to its foundations.

Isaiah is overwhelmed by his sinfulness in the presence of God's holiness. One of the seraphim takes a burning coal from the altar and touches it to his lips to cleanse him.

The Lord asks who will go to be a messenger to Israel. Isaiah says, “Send me!” The message the Lord gives him is one of judgement and destruction.

Application

Isaiah's vision represents God's calling of him as a prophet. He sees God as being immense and overwhelmingly holy.

The Lord is still wanting to send out His people with the message. The message is as frightening as it was for Isaiah- judgement and destruction.

But now we see Jesus who gives us the way out. God's judgement and destruction come to all people, but if we put our trust in Jesus, he will forgive us our sins and change the judgement from “Guilty” to “Not guilty.”

Prayer
Lord Jesus you take away the sins of the world. Thank you for changing the verdict on my life. Amen.
