Reflection on 1 Kings 17:8-24

Scripture
“Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you.”

Observation
It is a time of famine in Israel, at the hand of the Lord. The Lord tells Elijah to go to Zarephath where he meets a widow gathering sticks. Elijah asks the woman to get him some food. She tells him that she is down to her last meal and ready to die.

Elijah tells her not to worry because God will not let her run our of flour or oil until the drought is over. The woman prepares a meal for him and she discovers that Elijah's promise is true.

Some time later, the woman's son becomes ill and dies. Elijah takes the body to the room he stays in and cries out to the Lord, whereupon the boy is raised to life.

Application
Elijah's faith in action proves him to be a true man of God. Prayer and miracles are not a theory for him but everyday life.

This is the way it should be for us also. The same God who raised Christ from the dead dwells in us. We need to be listening to the Holy Spirit, ready for the command to take a step of faith to release miracles.

Prayer
Lord use me today to release life to the dead. Amen.
