Scripture
No one else so completely sold himself to what was evil in the Lord's sight as Ahab did under the influence of his wife Jezebel.
Observation
A man named Naboth owned a vineyard near the palace of the King of Israel in Jezreel. Ahab decides to ask Naboth to sell the land to him, but Naboth refuses.
Jezebel organises some scoundrels to falsely accuse Naboth is cursing God and the king. Naboth is stoned, and Jezebel tells Ahab to go and claim the vineyard.
The Lord tells Elijah to go and confront Ahab about this. God's judgement is that Ahab and Jezebel and all their family will die, that dogs and vultures will eat their bodies.
Ahab repents of this, but God still judges that no one has been as completely sold out to sin as Ahab.
Application
Ahab was a king who allowed his wife to lead him away from the Lord. Her depravity knew no bounds, and she led the whole country into idolatry.
God's judgement on Ahab was severe.
We need to make sure that we remain faithful to the Lord and not compromise in our faith to the ways of the world.
Prayer
O Lord, keep me faithful to you and walking in your ways always. Amen.
