Reflection on Galatians 5:13-25

Scripture
Those who belong to Christ have mailed the passions and desires of their sinful mature to His cross and crucified them there.

Observation
If we let the Holy Spirit guide our lives we will not follow the ways of sin. The Spirit fills our hearts with desires that oppose the fleshly nature.

The works of the sinful nature include sexual, destructive, selfish and occultic practices. But God's spirit brings a harvest of virtues.

Those who belong to Christ have crucified the old nature on His cross. We must follow the Spirit's leading, allowing Christ to fill every part of our lives.

Application
Following Jesus is not just about saying a prayer and going to church. Jesus wants to resurrect us from a life that leads to death to one of holiness and fruitfulness.

We cannot do this and should not attempt it, alone. Rather we must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit to let Him direct our lives, turning us away from sin and towards God.

When I became a Christian, my sinful nature was nailed to the cross of Christ. It does take a long time for it to die- even longer if I regularly take it down from the cross and feed it.

Prayer
Holy Spirit, please teach me how to listen to your voice in prayer, in the Word and in my daily life. Let me reap a great harvest of your fruit. Amen.
