Reflection on Colossians 1:15-28

Scripture
Now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

Observation
Christ is the visible image of God. Christ made everything that can be seen and that which can't be seen, including the heavenly powers. It is Christ who rules over the church and holds it all together.

Christ has made peace between God and the whole of creation- including us. Because of the blood of Christ shed on the cross, I am now reconciled to the Father and stand before Him holy and blameless. We must continue to maintain our position in Christ and not drift away from Him.

Paul has been given the task of proclaiming the full gospel of Christ to the church.

Application
It is all too easy to see our failings and our lack of perfection. But because of Christ, our heavenly Father counts us as holy and blameless.

We may not feel holy, but that is our status before God.

We still have a responsibility to walk in holiness, to live up to the judgement that God makes of us. Still God's judgement stands- forgiveness, holy, blameless. This is not because of our innate goodness, but because of Christ's forgiveness.

As we pursue Christ, we find that judgement of “not guilty” starts to become real, through the gracious convicting work of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer
Gracious God, your verdict on me is “holy and blameless.” Please help me to live up to this holy calling. Amen.
