Oh, how can I give you up Israel?
How can I let you go?
How can I destroy you like Admah
Or demolish you like Zeboiim?
My heart is torn within me
and my compassion overflows.

Observation
The Lord loves Israel, but Israel has walked away from the Lord. For this reason the Lord will sned Israel into exile.

Israel deserves to be destroyed because of the sins of the people, but God's compassion overflows towards them.

The Lord will send them into exile and, in time, the Lord will call them back.

Application
God hates sin because it pulls us away from Him. He desires us to be restored to Him, so destruction is always the last resort.

In His great love for us, God sent Jesus into the world to reconcile us to Himself.

This does not mean that punishment will not come or that eternal separation from God is not real for those who reject His love.

God hates sin, but His compassion still overflows towards us.
