Reflection on Luke 12:13-21

Scripture
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”

Observation
Someone asks Jesus to arbitrate in an inheritance dispute. Jesus refuses, and instead he warns against greed. Life is more than possessions.

Jesus goes on to tell a parable. A landowner reaps a great harvest and plans to build bigger barns, retire and party. But God calls him a fool for that night he will die.

Application
Jesus directs us to be “rich towards God”. We live in a society that has an abundance of possessions, but has neglected the Lord.

In pursuing material wealth and remaining spiritually poor, many people are rushing towards judgement and hell.

We must invest now n our relationship with God to obtain an eternal inheritance.

Prayer
Father please forgive me in being poor in my relationship with you. Help me to investmy heart, my time and my life in pursuing you and your Kingdom. Amen.
