Scripture
“Come now let us reason together,” says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
Observation
The Lord is so disgusted with the sins of His people, He compares them to Sodom and Gomorrah. He does not care for their sacrifices, their offerings their festivals.
The Lord will not listen to their prayers because the people keep sinning. They ignore the poor, the orphans and the widows.
The Lord pleads with the people to turn back to Him. Despite their great sins, if they will repent He will turn their red sins to white and they will prosper in the land.
Application
God is a holy God, and He sees into our hearts. He is not deceived by outward religious practices. If our heart does not match our prayers, He will not hear us.
God does not lightly close the doors on us, and He does not keep them closed if we return to Him. This is His great promise:
Come now let us reason together,” says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be white as snow;
though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
If we turn away from our sins, He will cleanse us from our unrighteousness.
He does not demand perfection, just a heart that is turned towards His purposes.
Prayer
Lord God, please grant me the gift of repentance. May I turn away from my sin and back to your great love. Amen.
