Reflection on Hebrews 11:29-12:2

Scripture
Therefore since we are surrounded by such a large crowd of witnesses, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us.

Observation
Moses and Joshua lived by faith and achieved great exploits for God through faith. All of the great heroes of Scripture lived by faith.

Some were tortured or imprisoned or killed for their faith in God, refusing to turn from God to be set free. They saw something better lying ahead even though they did not yet receive it.

Now we must run the race of faith, recognising that the forerunners are watching us. So we must strip off everything that would hold us back, especially sin.

Application
Faith isn't a super power that enables us to overcome every obstacle in our life.

Faith is the ability to cling to God and believe that His way is better than the opinions of men.

Sometimes faith enables us to achieve the impossible with God. Other times faith means simply staying the course regardless of whether we feel victorious or not.

We have been called to take part in a relay race that has been run over thousands of years. Let's stay in the race and run to the finish line.

Prayer
Some days, Lord I feel like Superman leaping tall buildings in your power. Other days are more of a struggle, Help me to see you in the good days and the bad, living them all to your glory. Amen,
